Latin Extended-A corresponds to Central European encodings. Pretty much all the other Latin Extended-N blocks don’t correspond to any well-defined set of languages. Rather, they are “dumping grounds”…5 -

For installed fonts in font menus, yes. I’m more likely to recall the family name then I am to remember which families have a prefix vs. a suffix vs. no vendor code at all.6 -

I much prefer foundry suffixes to foundry prefixes since the latter affects sorting.3 -

This is a long shot, but no harm trying, having scoured the web in vain... I'm trying to find information on the fbit font format. Even better would be a utility to convert fbit fonts into .bdf …1 -

That character appears to be uniFFFD (replacement character to replace unrepresentable character) rather than .notdef2
